Diocese of Austin Brand

Updated: Sep 28, 2022

Role: Creative Communications Manager, Diocese of Austin - Communications Office

After five years with our new website provider, eCatholic, we discerned it was time to update our website. The process would allow us to take advantage of new features on the platform and refine the structure of our site. Some of the foundational conversations provided the opportunity for us to rethink and refine our brand.

Website

The Challenge

Develop a website that serves as a marketing tool as well as a repository for resources and protocols. This site will be maintained by various members of the staff with varying comfort levels and communications experience.

The Solution

A website whose structure and design was informed by thorough audience research. One that features information hubs for major identity groups to find curated information. The new iteration of the website features enhanced features to help our staff present information in digestible segments.

Praise for the Website

We were honored to be included in eCatholic's annual Purposeful Designs recap of 2021:

"Thinking differently about something as common as site navigation can be challenging; however, the Diocese of Austin did an amazing job."

- Diane Kern

New Logos

The Challenge

With various lockups, colorways and languages, we had over 30 variations of our logo. We needed to refine the selections in order to present a stronger and more consistent identity. The diocesan leadership indicated the shield had to remain as it was but the word mark could be reimagined.

The Solution

A logo with a refined balance between the shield and wordmark. The new logo incorporates new fonts and a condensed lockup.

Services Provided

Audience Research

We engaged our audience in virtual and in-person conversations to dive deeper into what is important to them and how they use our website.

Creative Direction

I worked closely with the design team from eCatholic to develop a website that met our goals and honored the feedback we had received.

Brand Development

Taking the results of our research and input form the diocesan leadership, I developed and tested the logo parameters, color palette and type treatment.
